To learn how to minimise, or in some cases eliminate, the ongoing costs of using a computer.


The aim of this workshop is to look at ways to reduce (or in some cases eliminate) the costs. We will be looking at a number of subjects:

  • Obtaining a computer
  • The operating system
  • Programmes
  • Printing and stationery
  • Internet

This workshop is designed to provide information to people of all skill levels. We will also discuss how to install programs on your computer. Attendees are encouraged to ask questions.


Basic computer skills are required. Workshop attendees are to bring a USB drive with them, with 1 GB of free space for the workshop handout.


One session of 2 hours.

Jargon Buster

Media Access Control. A unique code that identifies any network adapter. A laptop PC might have one MAC for its wired network socket and another for wireless.
